2016年7月7日，苏格兰环境史网刊登题为《考古学家发掘出苏格兰最早农业证据》的文章表示，苏格兰农业出现的年代有望追溯到6000年前。英国格拉斯哥大学考古学家在苏格兰佩思郡邓宁村庄发掘了一个新石器时期人类居住遗址，在遗址中发现了类似于犁的原始农具。此外，考古学家还在农具上发现了一些陶器的碎片，他们认为这些农具和陶器可能有6000年左右的历史。
