据悉，日本JFE Steel计划到2012年夏季，增产20%的特殊船板，即月均生产1万吨。该船板的特点是1张船板的厚度不一致，因此只在需要时可以调整厚度，一部分薄、另一部分厚。
使用其可以使船舶的重量减轻，从中可以提高燃料效率，因此以日本的船舶业界为主，训单呈增加趋势。目前其生产量月均为8-9千吨，每1米当中，厚度可以调整最大8厘米。
